Rambling/Walking
Walking holidays in Europe often means walking holidays in Spain, because on the Costa Blanca mountains there are some of the most beautiful views you could imagine. Walking, Hiking, Scrambling, Via Ferrata, Canyoning and Rock Climbing in near perfect weather makes one feel privileged to be here.
Some of the Hiking routes use recent man made paths but many use ancient trails reaching far into the heart of the mountains taking us through small Valencian villages. Moorish and Christian castles are numerous.
There are more adventurous walks and hikes which follow animal tracks where you can explore hidden barrancos (ravines), river beds and new aspects of known mountains. From eagles and hoopoe to deers and wild boars and foxes to goats. The further inland you go the more secluded it becomes with hardly another person in sight all day and the range of mountain Flora is amazing.
The Costa Blanca's mountains, with their dark rugged silhouettes, dominate this landscape - an irresistible attraction for walkers.
Drive just a short distance inland from the Costa Blanca beaches, and you will find market gardens, orchards and orange groves, filled with wild herbs and flowers, from daisies to exotic orchids.
The fertile valleys are smothered in blossom or sweet-scented fruit and you will come across delightful inland villages. Windmills, waterfalls and 'snow wells' feature among the picnic settings.
The Costa Blanca mountains are ideal for year-round walking. However the best time for walking is March to May and September and October when the temperatures are cooler.
We have several walks, long and short, available in the house. There are several rambling and walking clubs on the Costa Blanca. We have listed the web sites of a few. They have full lists of programmes and activities and are all English speaking.
