Fuentes de Algar

The Fuentes de Algar natural park is one of the most pictueresque. It is a natural beauty spot in the mountains behind Benidorm, which is incredibly green and rich in crystal clear water.

They are situated 2.5km from Callosa d'Ensarria, at the source of the river from which it gets it's name. The region is a large fruit growing area in particular for its nisperos groves, a fruit unheard of outside of Spain.

As soon as you enter the waterfalls you will feel the fresh air and hear the tumbling waters. You then arrive at the main pool where the largest of the waterfalls cascades down. Be warned the water here is icy cold, even in the hot summer months.

There is a wooden bridge across this pool so you can climb the steps op to the top. Behind the restaurant there are more steps and although they are steep, it is well worth the effort, to see the main cascade, oleanders and fig trees.

At the top a large area has been set out with barbeques, tables, benches, toilets and showers. There are several coach tours which combine Las Fuentes with a visit to Gaudadalest and the nearby animal sanctuary El Arca de Noe.

To get there by car either take the A-7 motorway or the N-332 and take the turn off for Callosa d'en Sarria (near Benidorm) and you will find that "Fuentes del Algar" are well sign posted.
Well worth a visit is a cactus garden, which is nearby. There are numerous parking areas under the shade of trees or carports, a small train museum and an arboretum containing Mediterranean spice plants, aromatic essence of oils and perfumes.
